I’ve got a 2015 Honda Accord that’s started making a faint, high-pitched whining noise that seems to come from the front end when I’m turning the steering wheel at low speeds, like when I’m parking. The power steering fluid level looks okay, but I’m worried it might be the beginning of a pump issue.

Been there. On a similar car that faint whine at low speed was the belt slipping on the pump as it warmed up. Replacing the belt and checking the tension stopped it for a while.

I would pull the belts loose and inspect for glazing or cracks, and feel for any looseness. A worn belt can whine even with the fluid level fine.

It can be hard to tell, but sometimes the noise comes from a pulley bearing or the rack. If you can, listen with the hood up and focus on the belt area while someone else turns the wheel.

One time I swore it was the pump, but instead it was a loose splash shield rubbing when the steering moved. A quick crawl under showed the problem.
