Why is the Epic Games launcher so slow compared to Steam?
#1
I’ve been using the Epic Games launcher for a while now, but it consistently feels sluggish when I try to update a game or even just browse my library. My friend uses Steam on a nearly identical PC and doesn’t have this lag. Has anyone else noticed their client being this unresponsive during basic tasks?

Yep, I’ve noticed the same on my end. The Epic launcher feels sluggish to respond when I start an update or switch to my library.

I’ve tried pausing other downloads and closing background apps, but the lag stays.

Steam on the same PC is snappy for me, so it doesn’t feel like the hardware is the bottleneck.

I even reinstalled the launcher and cleared its cache, and it helped for a day or two before the slowdowns came back.

Could this be the backend server throttling or something in Epic's updater?

Sometimes I wonder if it’s not the app at all but Windows indexing or a driver task kicking in when I click things, which makes the whole UI stall.
