Why is Windows 11 running slow on my PC after a fresh install?
#1
I just installed a fresh copy of Windows 11 on my desktop, and the whole process felt slower than I remember from Windows 10. The initial setup took ages, and now even basic file operations seem to drag. I’m wondering if this is just the new normal for the OS or if my hardware might be the bottleneck, even though it met the stated requirements.

I had the same impression with a clean Win11 install on a midrange desktop. The setup itself crawled, and after that simple file moves felt sluggish for a while. I kept an eye on Task Manager and saw hard disk activity staying high for the first 10 or 15 minutes as Windows ran updates and index rebuilding.

On my system with an NVMe SSD and a newer CPU, once the background fluff settled, it was fine. The initial slow spell didn’t repeat. If yours is on a hard drive or older SATA, that could be the bottleneck rather than Windows 11 being slower by design.

Could the real bottleneck be a failing drive or RAM rather than the OS? It’s easy to blame the new system and miss a stubborn hardware snag.

I did a quick check and saw high disk usage from Windows processes for a while. I tried turning off some startup apps and paused indexing for a bit, and the lag eased a touch, but it didn’t feel like a clean fix.
