Best platforms for starting an e-commerce store with $200 budget
#1
I’ve been trying to get an e-commerce store off the ground for a few months now, but every attempt seems to stall before I even list a product. I’m working with a very limited budget, around $200 total, and I live in a rural area where shipping options are scarce, so finding the best platforms for starting an e-commerce store that actually accommodate those constraints has been a real puzzle.

I started with Shopify’s three-day trial, but the $39 monthly fee was a dealbreaker once I realized I couldn’t customize a free theme without coding. Then I tried WooCommerce, expecting it to be cheaper, but after paying $60 for a hosting plan and a $25 domain, I still hit a wall with plugin costs and my own slow internet—uploads kept failing. Actually, the $25 was for a .com domain through Namecheap, which I later learned I could have gotten for $12 elsewhere, so that stung a bit. my last attempt was Etsy, where I listed a handmade candle I made for $8, but their ad fees ate up the profit before any sales.

For anyone else starting out with a shoestring budget and rural logistics, which platform let you launch a store without requiring a monthly subscription or a complex hosting setup? I’m especially curious if there’s something like a zero-fee marketplace that works for physical goods under 5 pounds, or if I should give up on that and focus on a print-on-demand route despite the low margins.
