Can a household realistically reach a net-zero carbon footprint?

I’m trying to figure out if my household can realistically reach a net-zero carbon footprint. We’ve cut our energy use and switched to a green utility, but the emissions from our food, especially meat, and occasional flights seem impossible to eliminate completely.

We’ve cut our energy a lot and switched to green power. The house is comfortable and bills are predictable, so that part feels doable. The meat meals and occasional flights are the real friction points now.

Honestly, chasing net-zero with a family like ours seems possible in parts but not all at once. We’ve eased meat intake and cut back travel, but the emissions from food sourcing and a few trips still don’t vanish with a couple tweaks; we might have to pick a target and live with the gap.

We did a simple carbon tally for a few months. The energy slice dropped, but travel stayed stubborn. We limited trips to one longer flight a year and swapped to mostly plant-based meals; we still eat some meat at times and it adds up.

Sometimes I wonder if the real problem is the supply chain more than our household choices. I drift between feeling hopeful and discouraged, then circle back to the flight issue and food choices as the main levers we actually control.
