How can I balance a big career shift with starting a family?
#1
I’m trying to build a personal roadmap for the next five years, but I keep getting stuck on how to balance a big career shift with wanting to start a family. It feels like I’m mapping two completely different journeys that need to happen at the same time, and I’m not sure how to make the pieces fit without one major goal derailing the other.

I tried mapping both paths at once and it felt like chasing two clocks. I even sketched a family plan next to the career shift, but the deadlines kept pushing the family stuff off the board.

I blocked 4 hours on Saturdays for the new work and kept a simple metric: how many weeks I could stick with it. After two months I was falling behind, so I asked my partner to share some of the load and I cut back the goal.

Maybe the bottleneck isn’t the two journeys but how I define success. Is the problem fear of income loss or fear of not handling both well? I keep chasing a perfect plan instead of small, real steps.

I drifted into a different topic once, thinking about a color chart and a budget, then remembered that a rough five-year vibe helped me breathe. I tried a loose five-year vibe instead of a tight schedule, and it felt both silly and liberating.
