How can i break through the frozen hand for confident gesture drawing?
#1
I've been trying to improve my line work for figure drawing, but my sketches always end up looking stiff and lifeless. I keep hearing about the importance of a confident, continuous line, but my hand just seems to freeze up when I try to capture the gesture.

I know that feeling I used to freeze and the line would disappear as soon as I tried to be precise I started with a quick single stroke to catch the pose and then built the rest from there

I kept a simple rule draw a single confident sweep and the rest of the form grew from that line not by erasing but by letting the line lead

I tried blind contour for a few minutes each day it was awkward and funny but it loosened the grip and the sketches felt more alive even when the likeness was off

could it be that the real hurdle is not the line but the moment the pose or the space around it feels wrong and so the hand locks up?
