How can i charge my EV with a standard outdoor outlet at my parents' house?

I just got my first EV and I’m trying to figure out the best way to handle charging when I visit my parents for the weekend. Their house only has a standard outdoor outlet, so I’d be relying on that slow trickle of power.

I did something similar last year. Their outdoor outlet is slow but I managed to squeeze a weekend by charging overnight. I used a heavy outdoor extension cord and plugged the car's Level 1 charger in. After about 8 hours I gained roughly 25–30 miles of range. It wasn’t fast, but it kept me from running completely out of juice on the trip home.

The first time the breaker tripped I blamed the old wiring and stopped trying to pull any high current. I just reduced driving on Saturday and planned a route with a public charger for Sunday. It felt clumsy but I got there.

Do you know if that outlet is on a dedicated circuit? If it's shared with something else, it may trip easily and wreck the plan.

I wonder if the real problem isn't the charging at their place but how you plan weekend trips. Maybe you could shift the weekend so you do the long drive on the way there or back, not both, and save the rest of the time for exploring without worrying about the outlet.
