How can i choose a game after Disco Elysium that matches its vibe?

I just finished my first playthrough of Disco Elysium and I’m honestly a bit lost on what to play next. That game’s unique blend of RPG mechanics and its sheer density of writing and ideas has left me struggling to find anything that feels like it would be a satisfying follow-up. I tried jumping into a more traditional action RPG, but I just can’t get into it. Has anyone else hit a wall like this after a game that felt so complete and distinct?

I got where you are. After finishing Disco Elysium I kept chasing that density and wound up bouncing between heavy narratives and fluff. I tried Planescape Torment and Sunless Sea, but the sheer wordy weight wore me out. I ended up leaning into mood and pacing instead of trying to replicate the exact vibe, and picked up Return to Monkey Island and a few shorter indies with solid writing but lighter systems.

I actually gave it a go with Heaven's Vault for a while; the deciphering dialogue and archaeology vibe was neat, but after a dozen hours I realized I was still chasing a sense of discovery rather than a reward loop, so I shelved it. Then I tried some more conventional indies—Spiritfarer and This War of Mine—just to feel something different. It helped me reset expectations a bit, even if it wasn't a slam dunk.

Maybe the real issue isn't the next game at all, maybe you want a different kind of finish after such a dense hit?

One of my friends kept saying to stop hunting the exact same feeling and just grab something with a strong vibe, like a cozy mystery or a strange world with minimal combat. I didn’t fully buy it, but it did loosen the grip enough to try Outer Wilds or a shorter indie mystery. It’s not a perfect fit, but it gave me a break from the word soup.
