How can I find a respectful true crime podcast?
#1
I’m trying to find a good true crime podcast that actually respects the victims and doesn’t feel exploitative, but it’s been surprisingly difficult. So many shows I’ve tried either get too sensational or focus entirely on the perpetrator’s perspective, which leaves me feeling icky. Has anyone else struggled with this and found something that handles these stories with more care?

I get this. I pulled back after a few episodes that felt more like entertainment than memory. The ones that worked for me were the ones that gave victims a real voice and kept the focus off the killer’s tricks. Criminal and In the Dark stood out, not perfect, but calmer and more patient about the fallout.

I kept a little notebook: episode title, who spoke, what voice was centered, and whether the family or survivor got a line. If a show skewed to the perpetrator too much, I dropped it after 15 minutes. It helped me skip a lot of fluff.

I did try one miniseries that people praised for sensitivity, but I shut it off halfway because the pacing was so slow it felt numb. Not everything that’s praised lands for me, I guess.

Do you think the problem is the format itself or just the way some creators approach these stories lately?
