How can i get a companion mod to follow when too many mods are loaded?

I’ve been trying to get a custom companion mod working alongside my usual gameplay overhauls, but the companion just stands there idle and won’t follow. I’ve checked the load order and there’s no obvious conflict, so I’m wondering if it’s a script latency issue from having too many mods running at once.

Yep, I’ve seen that before. My companion would just stand there until a reload kicked the script back into action. When I had a big mod stack, the game would stall on the first tick and nobody moved. It felt like some latency in the scripts more than an AI issue.

I trimmed the mod list for a test run, pulled out a couple AI tweaks, and the follower finally moved after the game finished loading.

In my case it was an incompatibility with a overhaul that changed how followers are tagged in the data. Removing that one mod let the companion behave again, but I’m not sure why exactly.

Do you have any mod that changes follower AI states or factions?
