How can I get my custom follower dialogue to trigger during quests?

I’ve been trying to make a custom follower mod, but I’m stuck on getting their dialogue to trigger properly during quests. The voice lines I spliced play in the editor, but in-game they just use generic lines instead of my custom ones. Has anyone else run into this with their own character mods?
