How can i get my team to actually adopt the new project management software?

I’m struggling to get my team to actually use the new project management software we invested in. I’ve explained the benefits and run the training sessions, but everyone just reverts to their old spreadsheets and email chains. I’m worried this is undermining my authority as a new manager, but I also don’t want to be overly rigid if there’s a better way to drive this adoption.

That sounds familiar. I rolled it out, had a training week, then watched folks keep their spreadsheets. It felt like the new system existed beside the work, not inside it, and people kept their old rhythms.

I tried making updates mandatory in the system and even blocked sending emails unless there was a note in the new app. It slowed things down and people pushed back. I learned you can’t just switch the channel without easing the pace.

I wonder if the real issue is the process itself. Maybe the teams are not seeing less work, only more overhead. Could be the new software isn't the blocker, but the flow we asked them to use.

One thing I did in a panic is pair a senior on the project with a few skeptics for a week, had them log in together and show what they did. It helped a bit, but then it faded again when the pair left.
