How can i get my toddler into the car seat without a battle?
#1
I’m really struggling with my toddler’s sudden refusal to get into his car seat. Every single trip, even the short ones, have turned into a full-blown battle of wills where he goes completely stiff or tries to climb out. I’m at a loss for how to handle this phase safely and without losing my patience every time we need to go somewhere.

I’ve been there. The second we get near the car he goes stiff and climbs the seatback like a gymnast. On rough mornings I tried to slow my own heartbeat and just wait it out, which sounds silly but helped me not snap. We found a tiny bright spot when he got to choose a sticker to put on the car seat after he stayed buckled for a minute.

I told myself it wasn’t personal and then I yelled less and breathed more. Still, every trip felt like a trial. I’ve done the counting to three thing, I’ve whispered that we’d wait until he calmed, and sometimes nothing worked. It’s exhausting and I feel you.

Could it be something else in the morning routine that’s feeding the resistance, not the seat itself?

I drifted off topic once and got stuck thinking about making coffee, then realized we were still in the car seat fight. We did notice that when the car was parked and we sang a quick song while buckling, he would settle for a moment and then protest again once we started driving. It’s still not easy and I’m not sure what’s really helping.
