I’ve been trying to get the “Ghost” achievement in the first Deus Ex for ages, where you can’t set off any alarms in the Liberty Island mission. My problem is that specific guard patrol near the dock warehouse always seems to spot a body, even when I’m sure I hid it in a dark corner. Has anyone else run into this and figured out exactly what triggers it?

That guard by the dock was the reason I kept looping. I hid bodies in shadows, crept slow, and still he seemed to catch something. It felt like his patrol path shifted a bit between runs.

I started watching the timings for when he turned away and I swear the light level mattered too. If the body wasn't snug in a dark corner, the AI seemed to flag it.

I gave up on that route for a while and tried a different approach elsewhere, but the same alarm would pop later somewhere else.

RNG is real here. One run he didn't react, another run he slammed the alarm as soon as I dropped the corpse.

Question: could it be that the real trigger isn't the body but something else in the same area like a patrol glitch or a scene flag?

I remember thinking the problem was me misreading shadow distance, so I stopped worrying about precise stash and just accepted risk.

Honestly I wandered around until I found a different tactic that avoided that guard entirely, and that felt like game design trolling but it worked.
