How can I identify a film score from a haunting wordless vocal melody?

I’m trying to find a specific piece of music from a film, but all I can remember is a haunting, wordless vocal melody. I’ve searched through the official soundtrack listing and even tried humming it into a few apps, but nothing comes up. Has anyone else had this maddening experience trying to track down a score based only on a vocal cue?

Totally. I’ve chased a wordless vocal in a film score too. Hummed into apps, hunted through the official listing, and kept hitting dead ends. A tip that finally helped me was checking the end credits for the choir, vocal designer, or any kinematic names. Sometimes a later release or special edition shows the cue you’re after.

I’ve also wondered if what I heard was a blend of several cues stitched together. A lot of modern scores layer a single syllable over multiple phrases, so the line you remember might not exist as a standalone track.

Could any of you recall a scene that accompanied the vocal, even faintly? A moment in rain, a blackout, or a tense silence?

One time I got obsessed and spent a weekend slowly listening to the entire score scene by scene, trying to isolate the vocal texture. I didn’t beat it, but the few seconds I did isolate gave me a couple of candidate tracks, none of which matched perfectly.
