How can I keep a grid-based logo feeling fluid instead of stiff?

I’ve been trying to design a logo that uses a simple geometric grid as its foundation, but my drafts keep feeling rigid and corporate instead of fluid and human. I locked the elements to the grid for consistency, but maybe that’s what’s killing the energy?

I get it the grid has a way of leveling energy to a boring rhythm. I pulled one line off the rhythm and let it breathe a bit and suddenly the icon had a pulse again.

I tried sketching a few shapes freehand over the framework and then trimming back to alignment. It still felt stiff. Maybe the problem is the steps being too uniform rather than the idea itself.

I did a quick test on a small format like a sticker and the angles started reading as mechanical. I left one corner looser and the result felt more human even though it annoyed the process.

Could the real problem be something else entirely?
