How can I quiet my mind during morning meditation?
#1
I’ve been trying to meditate every morning for a few weeks now, but I keep getting stuck on the same thing. I sit down, focus on my breath, and almost immediately my mind starts racing with everything I need to do that day. It feels like the more I try to clear my head, the more cluttered it gets. Has anyone else found a way to get past that initial mental noise without it feeling like a fight?

I get that rush too. I sit and the to do list screams and the breath feel staged. I started with a short two minute version and let the mind wander without pushing. It kinda softened after a few days.

One thing I tried was naming the thoughts and then returning to the breath even as the list kept flashing by.

I'm not sure if this helps but I keep wondering if the real problem is not the noise but my expectation that it should be quiet. Could that be what I am chasing rather than presence?

Weirdly I ended up doing a tiny walk before the sit a few mornings and the head noise was less urgent for a few minutes after.

I kept a tiny log of when the mind settled and when it didnt and nothing felt reliable yet not entirely useless either.

If you want a concrete move I would try a short box breathing practice for one minute and see if the surge eases a bit but I may be wrong.
