How can i reduce phone use without feeling anxious about missing stuff?
#1
I’ve been trying to cut back on my phone use, but every time I silence notifications, I find myself picking it up more often just to check if I’m missing something. It feels like this constant, low-grade anxiety about being out of the loop has actually gotten worse since I started trying to be more intentional, which is the opposite of what I expected. Has anyone else experienced this paradox?

Yeah I get that paradox. I silenced every alert and even turned off badges, and at first it felt calmer. Then I found myself picking it up again, like silence becomes a test and my brain answers by checking anyway.

Maybe the real culprit isn’t the ping at all but the fear of missing out or just wanting to be seen as connected. Could that be the loop you’re stuck in?

One time I tried grayscale and leaving the phone in my bag during work blocks, and it did cut the urges a bit, but I still reached for it when bored. The habit stuck around.

Sometimes I drift off topic for a minute, thinking about something else, then circle back to the phone. It makes me wonder if the problem is really what I’m using it for, not the tool itself.
