How can i remove my old usernames from data brokers without hoops?
#1
I’ve been trying to scrub my old usernames from the web, but I keep hitting a wall with data brokers that won’t delete my info without a notarized letter or a phone call. Has anyone else managed to get off these lists without jumping through so many hoops? It feels like they’re counting on most people giving up.

I chased this last year and it was rough. Some brokers would not respond unless you mailed a notarized letter or made a phone call. I did a few online forms and got silence. It felt like they were hoping you would give up.

Maybe the real issue is that a lot of this information is still out there in old files even after you opt out. Some names pop back up after a few months and you start over.

I actually tried one place once and after weeks I got a confirmation that removals were processed, but then I found another listing with my name two weeks later.

Sometimes I catch myself thinking about other privacy things like old posts on a social site and how easy it used to be to delete them, but I keep returning to these lists and wondering if this is really the problem or just the symptom?
