How can I run a simple fair random-draw giveaway for our garden club?
#1
I’m trying to organize a small giveaway for our local gardening club’s online members, but I’m stuck on how to pick the winner fairly without using a complex tool. I was thinking of just putting all the usernames in a hat for a random draw, but I’m worried that might seem unprofessional or even easy to mess up. Has anyone here run something similar and found a simple, trustworthy method?

I did a small giveaway for our garden club last year. We wrote every username on slips of paper, tucked them in a jar, and drew one during a live Zoom session. People could see the slips and the hat stayed in view. Simple and surprisingly clean.

We tried a spreadsheet approach: list names, assign a number, run a simple formula to shuffle, then posted a screenshot and a short video of the result. It felt boring but trustworthy for folks who want proof.

One time we used a quick phone wheel app and streamed the spin. It went fast, and the winner got a shout-out. Only hiccup was someone asked for a backup draw if their entry got cut off on the livestream.

To me the sticking point isn’t the draw itself but making the rules clear up front. Who can enter, when, how many entries, and how you verify eligibility. If you skip that, even a perfect method feels flaky.
