I’ve been trying to organize a casual monthly board game night in my apartment building’s common room, but I’m struggling to get more than the same three neighbors to show up. I put flyers in the mailroom and posted in our building’s online portal, but the response has been pretty flat. Has anyone had luck building a regular local event from scratch like this?

Tried this in my building last year. I did a quick chat in the lobby and handed out a tiny flyer, then reminded folks the day before. It took weeks but we finally had a few more faces. Face to face felt better than notes.

Time matters a lot. We held it after dinner to avoid conflicts with chores and kids and I added a 10 minute intro game so people could warm up quickly. Still slow but the energy was better and a couple new people stayed longer.

We tried a rotating host idea where each month a different neighbor runs a small setup. People pay more attention when it feels like their turn. It did not explode but we kept seeing one or two new folks.

Maybe the space is the hurdle and not the invites. We added a fold out table and a lamp and it helped the vibe. Could the room itself be keeping people away?
