How can i stay informed about war news without getting numb?
#1
I’m struggling with how to handle the news lately. Every time I read about another attack on a school or a hospital in a war zone, I feel this overwhelming sense of helplessness, like the basic rules of decency are just gone. I want to stay informed, but seeing those reports of civilian infrastructure being targeted makes me wonder if consuming this news is just making me numb to it.

I get the numb feeling you mean. After a few days of scrolling I tried a strict news time limit and a clear cut off at certain hours. It helps a little but the pull is real.

I started keeping a tiny daily task list for when I feel overwhelmed like call a friend or take a walk The list is short and doable.

I text a friend after a big piece and we vent for five minutes then switch to something normal like a walk or a funny video.

Maybe the problem is not the news but how loud the coverage feels on social media I am not sure.

I do find it helps to read from sources that balance facts with context and then step away for a while.

Even when I am angry about attacks I drift to small things that work my hands what I feel in my body helps me notice what is inside me and that makes it less overwhelming.
