How can i stop self-sabotage and start making progress toward my goals?

I’ve been feeling really stuck lately because I can’t seem to make any real progress on my personal goals. I set small, achievable steps but then I just freeze and end up doing nothing, which makes me feel even worse. I’m wondering if anyone else has dealt with this kind of self-sabotage and how you got yourself to actually start moving.

I get it. I spent weeks staring at a list of tiny steps and feeling stuck. I kept starting then stopping. What helped a little was forcing myself to do one single act and not think about the rest. It felt like pushing a stubborn door a little bit.

Sometimes I worry the goal is the problem not the day to day push. I tried setting a timer for five minutes and then I quit without guilt if I failed but I did it for five minutes once and felt relief. It did not fix the bigger thing yet but it kept me in motion a moment.

Maybe the real issue is not the task but how you frame it. I once chased progress in a direction that did not fit me and the freeze stayed. It helped to talk with someone who asked if I still want this path or something else would do. I never got a clean win but it shifted what I chase. Is the real problem the goal or the way we plan it?

Honestly I still wobble on this too. Some days I pick up the thing and go for a few minutes and then drift away again. It feels messy and not tidy but I keep showing up for a moment and that is something I guess.
