How can i stop vinyl wrap from lifting on curved edges?
#1
I’ve been trying to get a clean finish on my custom enclosure for a small electronics project, but I’m struggling with the edges lifting after I apply the vinyl wrap. I’m using a heat gun and working slowly, but maybe my surface prep is wrong or the material just doesn’t like complex curves.

I learned the hard way that surface prep makes or breaks the vinyl wrap. I scrubbed the enclosure with isopropyl, let it dry completely, and wiped again with a clean microfiber. If there’s any oil or dust, the adhesive just peels at the edge. Once the surface was clean and dry, I worked in small sections and kept the heat gentle as I traced the curve.

Do you think the issue is the material itself? I tried a cheaper wrap and it lifted on sharp bends no matter how I heated. A pricier cast film behaved differently, but it’s a bigger gamble for a small run.

I did a test on a tight corner: a light heat sweep, then a pause while it cooled, and the edge stayed down for that edge but the adjacent area still lifted after a few hours. I ended up doing a second pass over the curve and it helped a bit.

I keep wondering if the problem is the edge geometry more than the adhesive. A bevel, a seam, or a little gap where air can sit feels like the real culprit, even when the rest of the surface looks fine.
