How can i style wide-leg trousers for a balanced look?
#1
I just bought a pair of wide-leg trousers that I love, but I’m honestly stumped on what kind of top to wear with them. Every time I try a fitted shirt it feels too severe, but my usual flowy blouses just make me look shapeless. I’m not sure how to find a balance that actually works for my frame.

I found that a soft blouse or knit with a half tuck can feel more natural with wide legs. Front tucked in just to define the waist, back left loose. Add a slim belt so the line stays clean without looking squeezed. Look for fabrics with drape and avoid stiff or clingy tops, and aim for a top that ends around your hip to keep the proportions readable.

Another route is a cropped structured top or a tailored blazer layered over the trousers. That creates a clear shoulder-to-hip line and keeps the pants the focal point. It also gives you options from casual to polish depending on shoes.

I tried a front tuck on a flowy blouse once and watched the silhouette snap into place without feeling bulky. It still wasn’t perfect all day, but the change was noticeable enough to keep experimenting with belted shapes.

Maybe the real balance issue isn’t the top at all and the pant length is off. A slightly shorter hem or a heel can pull the line up and stop the look from reading heavy.
