How can i tell if antibiotic side effects are just gut upset or serious?

Some of the most exciting moments in physics come when experimental physics findings don't match theoretical predictions. What recent experimental physics findings are challenging established theories or models? I'm interested in both subtle discrepancies that might hint at new physics and more dramatic anomalies that could lead to major physics breakthroughs.

I’ve been on a long course of antibiotics for a stubborn infection, and now I’m dealing with really bad stomach cramps and diarrhea. My doctor mentioned it could be related to the medication disrupting my gut, but I’m worried it’s something more. Has anyone else gone through this and found a way to tell the difference between just a side effect and a more serious gut issue?

Yeah I went through something similar after a long antibiotic course. Cramping and diarrhea started a few days in and stuck around for a bit after I finished the meds. I kept hoping it was just the gut resetting.

For me the big thing was watching for red flags: fever, dehydration, hardly any urine, or blood in stool. If any of that pops up I call the clinic or head in sooner rather than later.

A pharmacist friend said antibiotic associated diarrhea is common but not something to shrug off. If it lingers or gets worse, especially after finishing the course, ask for a test for C diff.

I tried a bland diet, avoiding dairy and spicy foods, and I took a probiotic made for antibiotic side effects. It helped a little after a few days but I wouldn’t say it fixed it.

I kept wondering if it was just the antibiotics or a separate stomach bug that happened at the same time. Timing with the meds makes it confusing.

Do you think the problem is the antibiotics messing with your gut or could it be something else entirely?
