How can i tell my neighbor their motion sensor light keeps me up at night?

I’ve been trying to figure out how to politely tell my neighbor that their new motion-sensor light shines directly into my bedroom window all night. Every time a cat or a raccoon trips it, I’m wide awake. I don’t want to start a feud, but I’m seriously sleep-deprived. Has anyone else navigated something like this successfully?

I had a similar thing last winter. I left a short note on the neighbor’s doorstep saying the motion light shines into my bedroom and wakes me up. I suggested angling it away or using a shorter timeout. They adjusted the angle and it helped a lot.

I tried talking to them in person after coffee on a weekend. I kept it casual and mentioned the cats in my yard too. They apologized and said they’d look into a shield or lowering the sensor. It helped sometimes, though some nights still glare.

For a quick fix I bought blackout curtains and a sleep mask, which bought me a few hours of decent sleep on rough nights. Not a cure, but it buys time.

Do you think the problem is really this one light or something bigger with the street layout?
