I was looking at some recent Chandra data on galaxy cluster mergers, and I keep hitting a wall trying to visualize the actual geometry and scale of the dark matter halos involved. The gravitational lensing maps show the distribution, but picturing how these vast, invisible structures interact during a collision, separate from the hot gas, leaves me just staring at my notes.
