How can laryngopharyngeal reflux cause a sore throat without heartburn?
#1
I’ve been dealing with a constant, low-grade sore throat for over a month now, and my doctor mentioned it could be related to laryngopharyngeal reflux. The thing is, I don’t really have the classic heartburn feeling, just this persistent irritation and the need to clear my throat all the time. I’m a bit confused about how reflux could be causing this without the usual stomach symptoms.

That makes sense. I had something similar last year: a constant throat irritation and a need to clear my throat, but no obvious heartburn. A doctor explained that laryngopharyngeal reflux can irritate the throat or voice box even if you don’t feel it in the chest. It’s sometimes called silent reflux, and the symptoms can be more throat-focused than stomach-focused.

I keep wondering if it’s really reflux or just dryness or allergies. My eyes and nose were snuffly for weeks, and the throat felt irritated too, which got me thinking maybe straight reflux isn’t the full story.

I tried a few concrete things and watched what happened. I kept a rough diary of meals and symptoms, tried not eating late, used a humidifier at night, and cut back on caffeine. Some days felt a little better, then it came back.

Is this really the root problem or could something else be driving it? I told my doctor about LPR, but I still fret that I’m missing something—an ENT check or allergy test might be worth it, but I’m not sure.
