How can one get accurate home blood pressure readings with the right cuff size?
#1
I’ve been trying to get a better handle on my blood pressure readings at home, but I’m confused about the proper technique. My doctor said to rest for five minutes first, but I’m not sure if I’m positioning my arm correctly or if the cuff size even matters that much.

I tried the five minute rest and still got tense when the cuff went on so the numbers felt off.

Cuff size surprised me I used the standard cuff on my upper arm and after switching to a properly sized cuff the readings looked steadier.

I learned to place the cuff on bare skin on the upper arm with the elbow supported and the cuff about one finger width above the elbow.

I keep my feet flat and my back supported and I try not to talk during the reading if I move or talk the numbers wander.

I sometimes do two readings in a row and take the average but I worry about whether that helps or hides a real pattern.

Do you think the real issue is not the cuff but how you breathe before reading?
