How can we highlight late-but-great answers in forum threads?
#1
I’ve noticed that some of the most helpful replies in technical support threads get buried on page three or four because they were posted a day after the initial question. The forum’s default sorting by post date means a lot of people miss the best solution. I’m wondering if there’s a way to better highlight these late-but-great answers.

I’ve seen threads where the real lifeline came from a post posted a day later, but it stays buried because the forum sorts by date. We tried a retroactive Best Answer label on a few threads, and it sparked a lot of debate about fairness and trust. In a quick check of about 20 threads, the late answers ended up gathering more upvotes than the early replies, but they barely surfaced because of the date sort.

I’ve started keeping a personal bookmark of those late posts and when I can I drop a link to them in the first reply, so someone skimming the top sees it. It helps a little, but it’s not scalable and it can feel like gaming the system.

It might not be the timing at all but discovery. If the ranking favors fresh content and the search index nudges new items, the most helpful insights can hide even when they exist. A test that surfaces the top upvoted or most helpful replies regardless of age would tell us something, but I’m wary of changing habits without data.

Do you think a separate Active Solutions feed or a badge that surfaces late but strong answers would actually fix it, or would it just move the problem elsewhere?
