How can we push a brand to accountability for a supplier's labor violations?

I’ve been volunteering with a group that documents factory conditions abroad, and I just hit a wall. Our latest report clearly shows the supplier is violating several core labor standards, but the big brand it supplies is dismissing it as “unverified.” I’m struggling with how to push for accountability when the evidence feels solid to us, but they keep demanding a level of proof that’s almost impossible for outsiders to get.

We did something like that last year. Our field team piled up a dossier with supplier docs, photos of conditions, and worker testimonies, then the brand called it unverified. We pushed for an independent audit and shared with a couple of labor-rights NGOs. The actual shift came after we published a joint briefing with a small coalition; the brand opened a remediation plan, though it was short on specifics.

I tried to triangulate with HR records and shipping logs, but the pieces never felt clean enough. When we spoke to a worker rep, they confirmed some issues, but the brand shrugged and kept asking for more. It started to feel like we were chasing a moving target.

Do you think the real problem is proving facts to an audience that controls the narrative, or is it the underlying violations that never get addressed because of who signs off?

I also found myself spending time on how to frame the report for procurement folks instead of actually getting a site visit. Then I remembered the workers who gave us the interviews and tried to keep their voices center. It felt almost silly to chase verification when the people on the ground were saying it loud.
