How can we steer new threads to the right subforum without sounding harsh?

I’ve noticed a lot of new threads lately that feel like they belong in other subforums, like tech support or general chit-chat, instead of here in Feedback & Suggestions. It’s starting to dilute the actual purpose of this section. How do we gently encourage better placement without coming across as forum police?

I tried a simple pinned note at the top that explained what belongs here and what doesn't. Not a policy speech, just a friendly heads‑up. Over a week the posts started landing in the right place a bit more often, but it wasn't dramatic and some folks still drifted.

Is the real issue the categories or people just not noticing the guidelines? I keep thinking it might be bigger than misposts—maybe the labels themselves are too broad, or the threads wander long before someone moves them. If we had crisper anchors in the nav or a short blurb when you click in, maybe folks would land here more often.

I tried adding a small tag in the post header like [not here], and I even moved a couple threads myself. It felt clumsy and I kept hearing from a few people that it was annoying. After a couple days I dropped it and just left a gentle comment about the post's topic, which seemed to please nobody and didn't change behavior much.

I once wandered into a coffee break mindset and started chatting about it in a casual thread, then circled back with a one liner: where should this go? It felt awkward and I think some folks missed the nudge, but a few regulars chimed in with their take. It drifted off topic for a bit in my head, but we did get a few clarifications from the discussion that followed.
