How can wool dryer balls replace fabric softener without increasing static?
#1
I’m trying to switch to a more sustainable laundry routine, but I’m stuck on fabric softener. I’ve heard wool dryer balls are a good eco-friendly alternative, but mine don’t seem to soften things or reduce static much, even after a few months of use. Maybe I’m using them wrong, or my dryer runs too hot?

I switched to wool dryer balls last year. After a few months I started lowering the heat and running smaller loads. They cut down on drying time a bit, but I still get towels that feel a little stiff and I still get some static on blends.

Honestly, the balls mostly seem to improve air flow rather than soften the fabrics. If you’re loading large fluffy towels or synthetics, you might not notice a big difference.

We tried a tiny splash of white vinegar in the rinse once. Static dropped a notch and fabrics felt a touch softer for that load, but the effect wore off after a few washes and the smell wasn’t ideal on towels.

Do you think the real issue is the heat or the load size, not the balls? If you’ve been using fabric softener, you might be masking what you’re after, and wool balls won’t exactly replicate that feel.
