How do antibiotics affect gut health and cause cramps during a sinus infection?
#1
I’ve been prescribed a course of antibiotics for a stubborn sinus infection, and I’m worried about how it might affect my gut. I’ve heard these medications can really disrupt the natural balance down there, and I’m starting to feel some early cramping. Has anyone else dealt with this specific worry during treatment?

I’ve been there too. I was on antibiotics for a stubborn sinus infection and started getting cramping a day or two in. I stayed hydrated, kept meals regular, and added a little yogurt with live cultures. It eased after a few days but the feeling lingered a bit.

Could the cramping be something else entirely like gas, dehydration, or stress from the meds? I’m not sure if it’s the gut stuff or something else.

I called the clinic and asked about probiotics with antibiotics. They said to space the probiotic a couple of hours away from the antibiotic dose. I tried that and it helped a bit with the gut upset, though it didn’t fix everything.

Meanwhile I kept wondering if maybe the real problem wasn’t the gut at all but how the body handles stress from being sick. I drifted off topic, reread a magazine piece about microbiomes, then came back to meds and cramps and nothing felt settled.
