How do antibiotics affect the gut microbiome and immune health?
#1
I’ve been reading about the role of gut bacteria in immune function, and I’m trying to understand how a course of broad-spectrum antibiotics might have disrupted mine. I feel like my recovery from common infections has been slower since then, but I’m not sure if that’s just my perception or if there’s a real connection to the microbiome being depleted.

After a round of broad spectrum antibiotics I felt infections linger longer. I tracked how many days I had symptoms and noticed one extra day on average before I felt back to baseline. It made me wonder if the gut recovery matters for immunity even for common bugs.

Some days I noticed digestion felt off and I read that gut bacteria help train immunity. I started adding yogurt and fermented foods and cut back on ultra processed stuff, but I am not sure if that change is what helped.

I am not convinced yet that the microbiome is the main factor here. It could be stress, sleep, or something else that slowed me down.

Could the real problem be something else like iron deficiency or sleep quality rather than the microbiome?

I did a brief trial with a probiotic for a month and felt a tiny bump in energy but then it faded and I dropped it.
