How do historians piece the Library of Alexandria timeline from fragments?
#1
I’ve always been taught that the Library of Alexandria’s destruction was a single, catastrophic fire, but I just read a paper suggesting it was a much slower decline from multiple smaller events over centuries. How do historians even begin to sort out the timeline from such fragmented sources? It makes me wonder what we’ve permanently lost from that period.
