How do I contribute to a project with a CLA without signing?

I’ve been trying to contribute to a project that uses a CLA, but the process feels more intimidating than I expected. I’m not a lawyer, and I’m hesitant to sign something I don’t fully understand just to get my small patch merged. Has anyone else felt this way?
