How do i cope with constant smartwatch nudges affecting my day?
#1
I’ve noticed my smartwatch nudging me to stand up and move every hour, and while I appreciate the reminder, I’m starting to feel like my entire day is being segmented and judged by this device. It makes me wonder if this constant quantification of my basic actions is actually helping my well-being or just turning my life into a series of performance metrics.

I get it. The hourly nudges were useful at first, but soon it started feeling like my day was a series of little tests I was being graded on.

I tried turning down the frequency and even switching to a gentler vibration, but the nagging thought that I’m always being watched crept in. Still moving more, I guess, just with less stress about the data.

For me the numbers are mixed. Some days a longer walk helps mood, other days the step count just adds pressure when I can't hit the target. I keep logging, but it’s not a clean win.

Maybe the real issue is that I don’t sit less at my desk in the first place. The reminder just highlights a bigger habit. I tried rearranging my layout so I stand up naturally, and the effect was small but real.

I did switch off the reminders for a week and, honestly, I still moved sometimes, but I felt less obsessed with it. It was odd not to get that ping every hour.

I’m not sure this is helping me in the long run. It makes life feel data-driven, but I’m not convinced that’s the point. Maybe we should just pay attention to how we feel, not what the device says.
