How do I find true crime podcasts that treat victims with respect?

I’ve been trying to find a good true crime podcast that doesn’t just focus on the sensational details, but actually treats the victims and their families with respect. I listened to one recently that handled the ethical considerations really thoughtfully, but now I’m struggling to find another that strikes that same balance.

I hear you. For me the ethics matter a lot. In the Dark season 1 really stuck with me—it's careful about naming the victim and keeps the focus on the investigation and the family impact, not splashy detail. Up and Vanished comes up a lot too, though it can swing between very solid reporting and more dramatic moments depending on the season.

Another that gets cited is Someone Knows Something from CBC. It tends to slow the pace to hear the family and community voices, which makes the pieces feel grounded rather than sensational.

I’ve tried a few others and walked away when it felt exploitative. These days I check the show notes and whether the producers name a victim advocate or ethics guidelines; that seems to correlate with how respectful the episodes are. There was a stretch where I started listening while chopping veggies and an episode kept circling back to gory details, so I switched to a different show.

Would you rather hunt for a long deep dive or a handful of shorter, tightly edited episodes? I can pull a few current options that fit one vibe or the other.
