How do I fix armor mod icons showing checkerboard in inventory?

I’m trying to get a custom armor set from a mod to show up properly in my character’s inventory, but the icons are just these big purple and black checkerboards. I’ve run the mesh and texture files through the mod’s own archive tool, but that didn’t fix it.

That magenta-and-black checkerboard look is the classic missing texture placeholder. I found that sometimes the icon file exists but the UI loader chokes on a format it doesn’t like.

I dug through a mod folder once and found there was a separate icon for inventory that never got included in the patch notes; I think the set matched the model but the icon file wasn't shipped.

Are you sure the mod actually includes inventory icons for that set, or is it just the 3D model textures?

I messed with the archive and still saw it, so I ended up dropping the mod and waiting for the author to update; maybe the problem isn't your load order but a missing reference in the manifest.
