How do I fix lip sync for a Skyrim follower mod in Creation Kit?
#1
I’m trying to make a custom follower mod for Skyrim and I’ve hit a wall with the voice lines. I recorded all the dialogue, but getting the lip sync files to generate properly through the Creation Kit is a nightmare. The .lip files either don’t match up or just don’t play in-game, and I can’t figure out what step I’m missing in the process.

I did something similar last year. I recorded the dialogue, then used a tool to bake in mouth shapes. The generated files looked ok in the editor, but in game the follower's mouth movement was off or the line wouldn't play. I found that tiny timing mismatches would wreck the whole line. I ended up re-exporting in smaller batches, testing one line at a time, and noting which line caused the trouble.

Another thing: I blamed the Creation Kit at first, but eventually I found that a few lines wouldn't trigger unless the voice data pointed to the exact NPC and the correct idle condition. When I matched the line's voice set and the actor's data, some lines finally played, though not all.

I tried clearing the mod cache and reloading the patch, which felt like guessing, but it seemed to help a little. I also experimented with different sample rates and mono vs stereo, but nothing obvious changed. I kept a notebook of which line did what so I could see a pattern later.

Do you test with a single line first to confirm the pipeline works end to end before expanding?
