How do I handle emotional clutter from sentimental shirts in a capsule wardrobe?
#1
I’ve been trying to reduce my wardrobe to a true capsule, but I keep getting stuck on my collection of sentimental t-shirts. They don’t fit my current style or lifestyle at all, yet letting them go feels like I’m discarding the memories attached. Has anyone else dealt with this specific kind of emotional clutter?

I get it. I also clung to a pile of sentimental tees and every time I opened the drawer I felt torn between the memories and the life I’m trying to build.

What helped me was taking photos of each shirt, choosing one keepsake photo, and donating the rest. It was awkward at first, but the closet finally stopped nagging at me.

Sometimes I wonder if the issue isn’t the shirts at all, but the story I’m telling about what letting go means.

I wore the most meaningful tee on a day I felt brave about a change, and it reminded me I can carry the memory without keeping the fabric.

Maybe box them for a year and see; or keep a tiny token instead of the whole stack and let the rest go without a ceremony.
