How do i handle no-shows for a casual board game night?

I’m trying to organize a casual board game night for my apartment building, but I’m worried about how to handle the inevitable no-shows. It’s a bit discouraging to prep snacks and set things up when you’re not sure who will actually come through.

I run a monthly game night and yeah the no-shows sting. We started a tiny RSVP and a reminder the day before. It cut the no‑show rate enough to stop me from overprepping.

I’ve learned to keep snacks simple and prep only a little, that way if folks bail it doesn’t feel wasted and I don’t sweat it too much.

Do you think the real issue is commitment or just not knowing who’s actually free that night?

I had a night where I hauled out a ton of stuff and still one table sat empty. Since then I leave a few open games ready and sometimes borrow a board from a neighbor to fill gaps.
