How do i move my attention past shoulder tension in a body scan meditation?
#1
I’ve been trying to use a body scan meditation to help with tension, but I keep getting stuck at my shoulders. My mind just fixates on the tightness there and I can’t seem to move my attention down to the rest of my body smoothly. Has anyone else had this happen where you sort of get mentally “stuck” on one area?

Yes, that happens to me. My shoulders feel tight and my brain just homes in on that spot. I tried telling it to be soft and letting the breath flow there, but the attention kept landing on the knot.

I switched to a quicker body scan: feet, calves, thighs, then torso, and only then tried to inch the focus toward the shoulders again. When the mind wandered, I acknowledged it and moved on.

A few times I did a tiny physical reset first—roll the shoulders, unclench the jaw, and take three deep breaths—then tried the scan again, and it helped reduce the tug a bit even if not perfect.

Could it be that the real snag is something else in posture or tension elsewhere and the shoulders are just the visible sign?
