How do I quiet a chaotic morning mind during meditation?
#1
I keep hearing how important it is to have a consistent morning meditation practice, but my mind is just a chaotic mess as soon as I sit down. I can’t seem to get past the planning and mental chatter about the day ahead to find any calm. Has anyone else managed to work through this kind of frantic morning mental state?

Same here. The thoughts arrive like clockwork as soon as I sit, planning the whole day in a flash.

I started with a three minute sit and a single rule: just notice the breath and let the chatter be there. I kept a tiny timer so I didn’t obsess over the clock.

Do you think the issue is the morning planning or is the mind just loud no matter when you practice?

I set the timer for 60 seconds, and when the bell rang I got up and did something else for a minute before starting the day. After a week the rush felt smaller.

I tried a quick walk to the kitchen then back to sit; the birds outside helped the mind soften a notch.

Sometimes I drop the formal sit entirely and just do a slow stretch routine; the calm shows up in a different shape.

A friend said to imagine thoughts as passing trucks and you just watch them go by; not sure it helped, but I kept showing up.
