How do I securely attach a top-heavy work surface to a frame for vibration?
#1
I’ve finally started building the custom shelving unit for my garage workshop, but I’m stuck on how to properly secure the top heavy-duty work surface to the main frame. I’m worried my plan for just using basic L-brackets won’t handle the vibration from my bench grinder and sander.

I started with L brackets too. The top would shake when the grinder roared. I tried adding a backer panel and a few through bolts to tie the top to the frame, but I wasn’t convinced it was the right fix.

In my shop the frame would flex and I swear the vibration traveled through the legs. I ended up building a thin subframe under the top and bolting it to the main rails. Helped some, but it felt improvised.

Do you have wall or floor anchors you can use? Sometimes the problem isn’t the brackets but how the whole thing is held in place.

I keep thinking maybe the real issue is the top not being square or the surface not flat. I drifted into thoughts about shim mats and vibration pads but never landed on a solid answer.
