How do i stick with a digital detox when i keep scrolling?
#1
I’ve been trying to cut down on my screen time, but I keep picking up my phone to check one little thing and then falling into a scrolling hole for an hour. It’s like my willpower just evaporates. Has anyone else found a way to actually make a digital detox stick, or is it just a constant battle for everyone?

I tried leaving the phone on the couch and doing blocks without it. It bought me a minute, but those sneaky checks still found me later.

Another time I used strict app timers and told myself I could only open a single, purposeful app per hour. It did weirdly reduce the impulse for a week, then I slipped back.

I moved social apps off my home screen and turned off badges. It slowed the ping-pong a bit, but I still scrolled when I was bored or stressed.

I started cooking longer meals to fill the evenings, and it did take the edge off the urge for a while. Still, the phone kept sneaking back in when I was tired.

I keep telling friends the detox is a tool, not a personality trait. Some days I feel like I'm fighting a mirror that keeps showing a new notification.

Is the real problem the device or the habit loop?

One small tweak that stuck for a bit: get an old-fashioned alarm clock and use that for mornings. It gave me room to think before my phone invaded.
