How do I style bold wardrobe pieces so they go with everything?
#1
I’ve been trying to build a more cohesive wardrobe, but I keep buying statement pieces that don’t actually go with anything else I own. I end up with these bold items that just hang in my closet because I can’t figure out how to wear them without looking like I’m trying too hard. Has anyone else dealt with this?

Yeah, I’ve been there. I bought a loud blazer and a neon bag, and they just hung in the closet. I tried a tiny capsule approach: pick 3 neutrals that go with most things, 1 or 2 bold accents, and build outfits from that. It’s slow, but you can see what actually gets worn.

What helped me a bit was starting with a single anchor piece—like a solid colored top or a pair of classic jeans—then pairing the statement with that. If the bold item doesn’t click with a few existing basics, it goes back. I’ve learned to value fit and fabric more than trendiness.

Is the real issue that your basics aren’t giving you enough options to pair the statements with, not the statements themselves?

I had a statement coat I loved on the hanger but it never clicked. I wore it once to test, realized I needed a muted bottom and simple shoes, and still felt off. So I returned it after a week and bought a couple of plain cardigans instead.
